How to start hiking

The Pezoparea team · Updated · 4 min read

Start with an organized one-day outing graded “Easy”. The organizer arranges transport and the route, and a leader who knows the trail goes with the group. All you need is basic gear. And don't worry if you have no one to go with: many people go alone the first time, and by the first stop you're already chatting.

Start with an organized outing

Don't go alone the first time. Clubs and companies run outings every weekend with a coach from your city and a leader who knows the route. You don't need to know trails, have a car or find company: the company comes with it.

On Pezoparea you filter by these and see only what suits you. Every organizer has its own grading scale, so we convert them into one common scale.

How sign-up works

Tap the outing you like and go to the organizer's page. There you read the terms, follow their instructions and sign up. Some clubs accept members only, and you'll see that on the outing.

After the first one

If you liked it, create your free Pezoparea account. You keep the outings you've done, see who else is going on the next one and hear first about new outings that suit you. Many people started exactly like this: one easy outing, and then they wanted another.

FAQ

Do I need to be fit for my first hike?

Not especially. If you can walk comfortably for an hour in the city, you can do an easy 3–5 hour outing with breaks.

Can I go alone?

Yes. Many people go alone on their first outing. On the coach and on the trail it's easy to get to know the group.

How much does a one-day outing cost?

Usually €15–50 per person including transport. Clubs are cheaper, especially for members.
